Sometimes when we are wanting to update a space whether it be a bedroom, bathroom or lounge, it can be that you look to perhaps purchase a new sofa, or cushions, or a change of colour palette. Whilst all those things will update a space immediately and effectively, it can be quite costly. Yes, there are so many great budget products out there however it can add up quickly and what starts as an inexpensive quest to refresh, can creep up to the $500 plus mark and you’re left questioning, should that have gone towards an investment piece for the house rather than a simple ‘quick fix’.
I truly believe one of the most effective ways you can update a space is plants, foliage and greenery. Say what? A garden? Yep, you heard correct. Whether it be power of plenty and you take a liking to a forest in your lounge room or a small palm in the bathroom, do not under estimate what these small or sometimes large leafy things can do for an interior space.
If you’re somewhat in the know of the latest interior trends and Real Living or Inside Out is a frequent mag on your coffee table, you’ll be aware how many great pots, plant holders and large baskets are currently on the market. Pop and Scott are leading the pack, but so many suppliers are following and creating phenomenal, innovative holders. Beyond the cool planters, the greenery actually has an amazing effect on a space. Transforming it from a stark, clinical feel to homely, soft and inviting instantly.
Plant prices are so varied, you can go as little or as large (within reason) as you like. Grouping works but so does solo standing, a more masculine holder like marble creates instant luxury verses bright and ceramic creates instant fun and splashes of colour. Then the more free standing ‘Uashmam’ pockets give a relaxed, organic feel and are an attractive price point. If the real deal holders are a bit exxy, look to retailers such as Country Road. There storage boxes or tea canisters often can double as plant holders.
The best thing about plants is there is no right or wrong, they look great in corners and nooks but ultimately anywhere and everywhere suits. They are long lasting and much more cost effective than weekly bunches of flowers. Marble Basics are my current favourites.
