This month we are talking interior trends. I often get people asking “what colour should I use to update my space? I’ve done all my favourite colours and want something new and a bit different.” I always recommend to look to fashion and your surrounds. What colours are in the sky? The leaves on the trees? Flowers in the garden? What’s on the catwalks overseas? It always gives me great direction, a perfect starting point. When a space has interiors and a feel that are in correlation to the season, the area feels right, and like I always say interiors are just as much about feeling as they are about the actual products.
Does the world of fashion inspire interiors or vice versa, no one knows. One thing that can be certain is that all trends can be adapted and transcend on many artistic platforms. So even if interiors are not your strong point, but colour perhaps is, draw upon these strengths and you will be surprised at what you come up with.
Currently on our radar at the moment is rich blush tones, terracotta red, violets of all shades, toffee brown, forest green and icy blues. Feature walls are inexpensive and easy to change, cushions, throws, flowers, trays and bowls are my favourite ways to perk up a space. If you are a interiors lover but always get a bit lost when it comes to purchasing – a safe bet is always getting basics and neutrals in big pieces then updating spaces via whats trending. It’s not about needing to follow trends to have the best space, but just using them for direction then interrupting them in your own unique way. Texture can also be a fabulous element to play with. Winter and the cooler months ooze heavily knitted and thick pieces, velvet, fur and cashmere whilst summer is natural weaved pieces think cain chairs, linen and light jersey, going by what is listed, it’s easy to see just how much fashion and interiors cross over. ”
