“We want to empower everyone to have the belief and knowledge that they can create good food. We want all Australians to be as excited and passionate about beautiful produce and incredible flavours as we are”
I follow Will and Steve “the Gourmet Pommies” on social media and was excited to see them win this years ‘My Kitchen Rules’ on channel 7. I was a firm believer that they could win from early on. They had the passion, charisma and in my opinion, very marketable. So when I saw the the likeable pair were doing a demonstration at Sydney’s ‘Peters of Kensington’ I jumped at the chance to attend.
I arrived a little early, as I know from experience these demonstrations are busy, but I never expected the 160 people who were lined up to get their seat to watch the duo prepare their three course menu.
These two lads from the United Kingdom, who now call Australia home, were both made redundant by the investment bank that had bought them here. They saw ‘My Kitchen Rules’ as a way to change their direction, their lives and follow their passion.
The pair started their very first demo with Will making a cup of tea, how very English of them! They shared their three course with us, we tasted, watched and listened to their banter.
The pair have a really refreshing passion for food and flavours. They aim to teach people by sharing their passion and are set to release a book shortly, with the intent on giving the reader a great base of techniques and flavours to start with and developed throughout the book. I really love this idea that they have to educate and teach using a few great ingredients, and following through to the next course with some of the same ingredients (so you don’t need to buy half of the supermarket to make dinner! I’m pretty sure we can all relate to this once or twice.)
They emphasis good quality produce, great protein, using spices and fresh herbs, and my favourite – one of the first skills I was taught… seasoning.
I’m looking forward to seeing what this dynamic duo have on the cards, a really likable and approachable couple of guys sharing their passion, as they build their brand. You can follow their journey on Facebook, Instagram and their website www.thegourmetpommies.com
A special thanks to Peters of Kensington and Sweaty Betty PR for hosting this event.
