Tell us about you?
I’m Christina and I’m a full time blogger living in Sydney. I started a beauty blog called Hair Romance, and now have a travel and lifestyle blog, Mr & Mrs Romance with my husband Jim.
I also run blogging workshops called Little Blog Big with the fabulous Carly from Smaggle.com and we help bloggers and creatives to be internet ninjas.
In my free time I also consult in idea strategy and social media.
What is your story?
I used to work in corporate property and design. A colleague commented that she never saw me wear my hair the same way twice and that I should start a daily hair blog. I thought the idea was crazy but when I mentioned it to friends they loved the idea.
The name Hair Romance came about because I used to hate my hair until I met my hairdresser, Rohan, who helped me to understand my hair. I also met my husband Jim in the same street that I met Rohan two weeks later so it was a pretty life-changing month for my hair and my love life. That’s where my hair romance began.
My company is called Romance Media so when Jim and I decided to blog together, we became Mr & Mrs Romance.
What inspires you?
I find inspiration everywhere! Blogging has changed my life and I love the community online. Pinterest and Instagram and my visual inspiration online and I adore seeing the success of fellow bloggers and business owners. I believe a rising tide lifts all boats and we have to support each other’s wins.
If I ever get stuck, I head out for a walk and listen to a podcast. Or I jump in the shower. I get so many ideas while washing my hair that Jim bought me a waterproof notepad to keep in the shower.
So, whats next?
I’m celebrating five years of blogging at Hair Romance and still haven’t run out of hairstyle ideas.
Since winning the Problogger Virgin Australia competition, Jim and I have lots of exciting travel ahead on Mr & Mrs Romance.
I’m loving being able to teach and give back to the blogging community with Little Blog Big. Carly and I talk about anything and everything so it’s practical and real advice. We are teaching live events down the east coast this year and there’s lots more planned for next year. You can find out more at http://www.littleblogbig.com/events/
Can you share with us something people don’t know about you?
I’m not a hairdresser and have no training in hair. My first job was as a photographer.
I’m self taught and I feel that this makes my hair tutorials more relatable. When I started Hair Romance, I searched for professional tutorials but they were all stylists working on a client’s hair. I couldn’t recreate that at home so started shooting styles in my own hair. I have lots of friends in the industry who I turn to for professional advice and I see Hair Romance as a translator between the stylist and the client.
I use a tripod and self timer to take my photos so if I can do both at the same time, then I know you learn to do the styles in your hair.
