On Set for an Underwater Concept Shoot

It just doesn’t seem right to say this is work……..how lucky I am!

On a 32 degree day last week I had the opportunity to be on set for an underwater shoot with an incredibly creative and talented photographer Shannon Cotterill, NSW Portrait Photographer of the year. I work with Shannon often on many of her concept shoots, which most definitely keeps the creative juices flowing and me on my toes as far as product research, knowledge and application, due to the diverse looks I have to create.

When it comes to underwater, well that throws a whole different spin on things. Not only does it have to be waterproof but there has to be minimal if any residue coming from the face to keep the water crystal clear.

I use cream and gel products all the way after starting with one very durable long lasting foundation. If you’re in the need of emerging from the water just like Halle Berry did in the James Bond movie Die Another Day  – looking flawless, then take note ladies these are the products for you.

Foundation – Face Atelier “Ultra”
Contour to lift those check bones – “Senna Face Sculpting Kit”
Cheeks – MAC Cremeblend Blush “lady blush”
Brows – MAC Veluxe Brow Liner “strawberry blonde”
Eyes – Ben Nye Lumiere Creme Colour Palette “bronze”
EyeLiner – Mac Fluidline Gel Liner “black”
Mascara – Max Factors Waterproof False Lash Effect “black”
Lipstick – Makeup Forever “no 23”

My job was done within the hour so what else do you do on a hot day but get in the water to help swish fabric just to cool off! So with my brushes packed away, wetsuit on, weight belt around my waist and snorkelling mask, I hit the water to help get the fabric in the perfect position. Tough job I know right, but someone has to do it. Although I will say note to self for next time………..Kaz remember you aren’t the tallest of people so opt for the shallow end as coming up with a heavy weight belt on with legs that aren’t long enough to touch the bottom was a tad on the funny “side” and somewhat exhausting after a while.
