That thing

I have had this THING brewing in my mind for a little while now, and I haven’t quite been able to articulate exactly what it is.. but it was something to do with making the most of the few spare minutes you have each day (ie putting down social media and doing a small job).. and something about using that time for things other than everyday chores, instead to choose one of those jobs that you have been putting off for a long time.

Beth from BabyMac hit the nail on the head when she started #onething …. it is exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of.. but then Crystal Barton hit the nail on the head when she talks about putting down your social media and doing one thing (see there its that #onething again).  Crystals ideas are more daily tasks, whereas Beths are of a bigger nature.

This has made me realise that since January, I have been doing a combination of both of these things. Limiting the days I blog, and using the extra time more effectively.  Instead of blogging on a Thursday, I set myself a ‘project’ … (for example getting our taxation paperwork ready for the accountant) or several depending on the scope (paying bills, sending birthday cards, getting some photos printed seems to always allude me).   On the other days, if I put down my phone for 10 mins (or even find I am running 10 mins early for something),   I have a quick look around me and choose ONE THING to do, and I bloody well do it!

It’s that one thing that weighs heavily on your shoulders until you have done it (a bit like Beth.. cleaning the car, everytime I hop into it, I get annoyed with myself).. or its those really small things around the house that drive me crazy because I never seem to have time to get to it (the baby bibs that haven’t been used for 6 months but still take up cupboard space.. yay finally got rid of them this week).

So refreshing.  So mind clearing on so many levels… and sometimes, I just sit and have a cup of tea for 10 mins and don’t do anything at all.. and that in itself is a miracle!

Not quite sure what to call this new way of life yet (because #ONETHING is perfect, but that is already taken), but I can highly recommend giving it a go.  It is amazing what you can get done in 10 mins.
